The Corn King and the Spring Queen - Naomi Mitchison
Only two books this month (due to excessive time spent on Christmas shopping!). I'm so glad that I finally got hold of a copy of "The Corn King and the Spring Queen". It's such a long time since I originally read it, and it was just as good as I remembered.

Does Toby Stephens always play baddies? I saw Die Another Day & Possession on the same day and he was a baddie in both! I don't think I've ever seen him play anyone who wasn't an arrogant so-and-so.
It is so long since I read "Possession" that I couldn't remember the story very well (although the change of the hero from working-class British to American did jar somewhat). I find that the better you know the book, the more the film grates on you. The main reason that I haven't read the Harry Potter books is that I already have a huge pile of unread books to get through, but I'm sure that not having read them is why I enjoyed the films so much. I never have the same problem the other way round, so when I finally get round to reading HP it won't be spoiled by having seen the films first. Anyway, I enjoyed "Possession" - especially Jennifer Ehle's performance.
I don't like rom coms very much, due to their yawn-making predictability, so I mainly went to see "Sweet Home Alabama" because it starred Reese Witherspoon. The actor playing her husband was rather cute, he has a very sexy smile. I'm not sure whether I've ever seen him in anything else. Luckily SHA was better than most rom coms - the fact that RW's New York fiancee was also a nice-guy made it more interesting.
