Books

This month I started off in the 18th century, reading 'According to Queeney' by Beryl Bainbridge, the story of Samuel Johnson's relationship with Hester Thrale and then 'Fanny Hill' by John Cleland, which is 18th century erotica.

Then I changed to fantasy, re-reading the first two volumes of the Earthsea trilogy by Ursula Le Guin 'A Wizard Of Earthsea' and 'The Tombs Of Atuan'. As it must be 20 years or more since I read them, I could remember the general theme of Sparrowhawk becoming a wizard and the fact that Earthsea was a large archipelago, but that's about all.

Cinema Trips

'Men In Black II' - Disappointing that it wasn't as funny as the original, but I do like Will Smith.
'Scooby Doo' - Hmm. It was okay, but the identitly of the villain was amusing. I was surprised to see Isla fisher there, as I hadn't heard that she was in it.
'Talk To Her' (Pedro Almodovar) - Interestingly, this film focuses on men for a change, although all the
protagonists' attention is focused on the women.

August was quite a slow cinema month for me. Normally I go to Broadway (the local Art House cinema) a lot more often than I go to the local multiplex, but since Screen 2 at Broadway was closed all month for refurbishment, there were only half as many films to choose from as normal.
