TV Nostalgia
Thursday, September 4th, 2003 18:26So "The White Horses" has been named the best ever TV theme tune. I used to love TWH - it was the story of a girl called Julia who went to stay with her uncle Dimitri on his Lipizzaner stud farm.
There were a lot of dubbed European childrens' programmes on when I was small. Apart from TWH, there was "Belle & Sebastian", the adventures of a little boy and a pyrenean mountain dog. I don't remember much about that one, as I was very small when it was shown. It was the reason I wanted my baby brother (born when I was four) to be called Sebastian, but unfortunately another name won out : (
Then there was "The Flashing Blade", a French or Spanish show with lots of sword fights. I think that it was set in the 17th century or thereabouts.
And last but not least, there were lots of East European fairy tales, including the much loved Singing Ringing Tree, as lampooned by Chanel 9 in "The Fast Show".
Kids' TV just isn't what it used to be.
