kittiwake: (dreams)
Over the past fortnight I have slept through the whole night without waking 4 times, including three mornings in a row earlier this week. I was getting excited and thinking this bad patch might be over, but the last three nights have been bad again. The only good thing to have come out of this bad patch is that my 'going to sleep' insomnia seems to have eased up. And a good thing too, or I wouldn't be getting any sleep at all!

There hasn't been any point in going to bed early to try and catch up with my sleep as fireworks have been going off every evening recently. There was a lull after Diwali, but it wasn't long before the run up to Bonfire Night started. As Bonfire Night was on Wednesday, I'm hoping that the last of the firework parties would have been held yesterday evening - it certainly got very noisy.

I haven't been able to catch up with my sleep at weekends either, as I've been going into work on Sundays recently to do overtime and I prefer to get into work early so that I can leave by mid-afternoon. And as I've been working late on weekdays too, recent Saturdays have been filled with housework, and visits to the bank, post office, supermarket and other things that I can't do during the week, so I can't lie in for too long even on a Saturday.

I suppose I should try to go to bed earlier as I'm definitely feeling the effects of sleep deficit at the moment. The last two nights I've fallen asleep in the living room while watching TV, and I'm finding that I'm too sleepy to meditate; I can't concentrate and I keep drifting off toward sleep. My regular going to bed time is c. 23:00 and several nights a week there are 1/2 hour comedy shows on Radio 4 which I listen to in bed, so I don't actually start trying to go to sleep until 23:30. My alarm is set for 06:00 on weekdays at the moment so I can get into work early, and that wouldn't give me enough sleep at the best of times. Perhaps it would help to have a nap when I get home from work, before I start on the usual round of tea, housework, internet & TV.
