Sleep, Stress & Resolutions
Saturday, January 24th, 2004 18:57My insomnia seems to have ameliorated over the last couple of weeks, most likely due to a slight decrease in work-induced stress. I'm no longer waking up 3 or 4 times during the week, and my lifelong 'getting to sleep' insomnia hasn't yet kicked in again to compensate.
So why am I sabotaging myself by staying up so late? I should be making the most of it while it lasts and catching up on my sleep, yet the past 3 nights I haven't gone to bed until well after 1 am.
This week I did manage to make it to my to the Buddhist centre for meditation and a class, for the first time since November. I've just been so busy at work recently that even when I leave work at a reasonable time, I am too tired to do anything in the evening. And a few times I actually fell asleep while meditating at home.
My diet and fitness regime has also suffered, as I never seem to have time to go swimming or to the gym or cook myself anything healthy to eat.
So I had already broken two of my New Year's resolutions (to meditate every day and go to the gym at least twice a week) and today I broke my resolution not to buy any books this year (three times - v. bad).
