Insomnia Blues

Tuesday's day off work was less enjoyable than it should have been, due to having the worst night of insomnia for months on Monday night.

I went to bed at my usual time, about 11 pm and shortly thereafter realised that getting to sleep wasn't going to be easy. I had Radio 3 on low, for the soothing effect of classical music, but that didn't help. At about 2:45 am, I got up and went into the living room where I watched 2 half hour TV programmes that I recorded earlier and then looked at the news on teletext. I went back to bed at about 4:15 but I was still wide awake, so at about 5:15 am I went on the Internet for an hour before going back to bed.

My alarm went off at 7:30 am but I decided to stay in bed a bit longer (fatal mistake). At 8:55 am I jerked awake from my doze to find that it was way too late for me to make it to the dentists for my appointment at 9:10 am. So I had to ring the dentists' office and grovel a bit so that they would give me another appointment for next week. And after so little sleep I knew I would fall asleep in the cinema if I went to see "Return of the King", so the only thing I got done from my to do list was to sort out my overtime money. I paid an extra £500 off my mortgage, put £500 in my cash ISA and allocated some money to pay off a couple of credit card bills. The remainder of my overtime money has already been spent on buying some new clothes in the sales.

The last couple of nights I got to sleep all right but woke up two or three times in the night, so I haven't caught up on my sleep at all. And now it is 11:15 pm and I can just tell that I'm not going to get to sleep any time soon.
