Can you hear me?
Thursday, March 11th, 2004 18:54On Monday afternoon at work I developed a sore throat.
On Tuesday I started off with a hoarse voice which got worse throughout the day, until I could hardly speak at our 4 pm progress meeting at work.
On Wednesday I had a day's holiday from work so I was speaking less, but my voice continued to disappear.
On Thursday I was reduced to a whisper and even that was an effort. I had a doctor's appointment this morning and the doctor said that I have a viral infection seated on the voice box, so that the tissues are swollen. She said that since it isn't affecting my asthma and I don't feel ill, I am okay to go to work, but I should avoid talking. I should also gargle with soluble aspirin four times a day, but it might not help, since the voice box is so far down the throat.
Oh, and if it's not better in three weeks (yes, that was three whole weeks !!!) I should go back to see the doctor.
