kittiwake: (mythology)
An anthology of 19 stories about elves. Tall slender elves and small bearded elves, elven Lords and elven layabouts, elves in faerie and elves in our world, fairy tales and fantasy stories. There were a couple of weaker stories but on the whole this was an interesting and varied bunch of stories. My favourites were "A Midsummer Night's Dream Team" by Tanya Huff, about a team from Faerie taking on the USA basketball team at the Olympic Games, "Eine Kleine Elfmusik" by Karen Haber, which concerns a social worker with an elf for a client, and the sinister "All That Glitters" by C.J. Henderson.
kittiwake: (travel)
This extremely far-fetched story begins at the funeral of 46-year-old Molly Lane, and the main characters are three of her ex-lovers and her husband. It becomes clear that free-spirited and vivacious Molly had atrocious taste in men, as all four are thoroughly despicable in different ways. I read all 178 pages in one insomniac session in the early hours of yesterday morning, and although it didn't send me back to sleep, I can't say that I ever really got into it.
