Saturday, November 8th, 2008 11:28In 1943, Aline Griffith was 20 years old and working as a model in New York, but longed to be involved in the war like her two brothers. A chance meeting led to her becoming a spy, and this is the story of her training and her first mission overseas.
Supposedly sent to Madrid to work for the American Oil Mission, her real job was to infiltrate high society and discover which of four suspects was Heinrich Himmler's top agent in Spain. This involved attending a lot of parties and hob-nobbing with the Spanish nobility, but she put found herself in danger from 'friends' as well as enemy agents, once she started to believe the rumours of a double-agent among the American spies working in Madrid.
This is a true story, although the author has disguised certain people's identities and changed the order of some events to make the story flow better.
