Frida
The story of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, starring Salma Hayek. It was wonderful and moving - I especially loved the surrealistic way that they integrated her paintings into the live action.
Welcome to Collinwood
I hadn't heard anything much about it, so I didn't know what to expect, but on the other hand, I hadn't seen any spoilers for it. It was an amusing heist movie, about a bunch of incompetents trying to rob a safe above a jeweler' shop. I liked the cinematography; everything had a distinct brown tinge to it, emphasising the down-at-heel quality of both Collinwood and the characters.George Cloooney's role is more of a cameo, he is not the main character, so why is he in the centre of the picture on the posters. Because he's the biggest star of course .
Intacto
A very subtle fantasy thriller set in Spain. Dialogue mostly in Spanish, but partly in English. Certain people are more than just lucky; they can take the luck from people around them by touching them. Some of these people realise that they have this gift and and they pit their luck (and their possessions) against other such people in games where the winner is decided by chance, to build up their own store of luck even further. If they beat everyone else, they get to play against meet the ultimate lucky character known as 'the Jew' (played by Max von Sydow, who was fantastic in this). You can tell that this is a European art movie, as it takes quite a while to get to grips with what is going on, since the audience is not spoon-fed any explanations.
