I put my washing on and then went into the other room to use the Internet. After a while I heard a suspicious clanking coming from the washing machine, so I went to have a look. I thought that it might be the brass buttons my denim jacket banging against the glass door, although it sounded rather loud.
I saw a flash of chrome and on looking closer, I saw my pocket watch going round and round banging against the glass ever time. I must have forgotten to check my jacket pockets. I'm allergic to wrist watches, so I usually either carry a pocket watch or wear a small watch on a chain around my neck.
I had to wait until the machine finished its cycle before retrieving the watch, and it is actually still going! It is a nice chunky pocket watch and presumably has some degree of water-proofing, but I wouldn't have expected it to survive that. It might have got moisture inside, so I won't count my chickens until I check if it's still going tomorrow morning.
