Miscellany
Saturday, August 16th, 2003 16:48In the last couple of weeks, I have done three postal swaps, the third of which arrived today:
1) The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood (literary fiction) for Moving Pictures by Terry Pratchett (SF/humour) - sent to vi0let in Finland.
2) The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 3/4 by Sue Townsend (humour) for Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabakov (literary fiction) - sent to Lobodyke in the USA.
3) Dancing with the Virgins by Stephen Booth (murder mystery) for Coraline by Neil Gaiman (Fantasy) - sent to talkland in the UK.
The wish list feature is very useful. It was only a few days after I'd finally got round to creating mine that Lobodyke mailed me to say that she'd got a copy of Pale Fire if I was interested in a swap. Then I used it to find out if anyone was looking for DwtV and talkland was the only one, so I checked her bookshelf to see if there was anything I wanted. As she'd got a copy of Coraline and I've been wanting to read more of Neil Gaiman's stuff, I suggested a swap.
It was last Saturday that I got the rash from wearing my metal bracelet fro too long. I have been smearing my wrist with anti-histamine cream all week and although the rash has faded, it's still there and still itchy. That'll teach me. I think I'll give the bracelet to my sister, as she isn't allergic to nickel.
My problem with jewellery is that I'm too mean to buy expensive silver and gold stuff that I will just lose or break. I really ought to throw out all my earrings and start again with silver & hypoallergenic.
I have no idea where my Bible has got to. I wanted to look a couple of things up in it, but it is nowhere to be found. You wouldn't think that a large fat hardback covered in pale blue wallpaper* could vanish into thin air; it is most odd.
*We were given the bibles at school, and the rule was that all our school textbooks & exercise books had to be covered.
