Miscellany
Tuesday, August 26th, 2003 18:37Yesterday I updated my LJ a bit, nothing major. I replaced my default picture (a still from "all About My Mother") with a photo of a hare, added a couple of things to my info page and removed the Weather Pixie, as it didn't seem to get updated very often.
I also loaded a tinted photo of silent movie star Louise Brooks reading a book to decorate my Book Crossing bookshelf, as it seemed an appropriate image.
I watched "The Italian Job" on TV last night, as it was being shown in advance of the Hollywood remake being released next month. I looked the remake up on IMDB and it has got very mixed reviews. Personally, I am inclined to agree with the people who hate it for being a heretical remake of a much-loved favourite, but perhaps I ought to give it a chance : (
We had a conversation about the Italian Job at work last time it was on, and found that B had never seen it, which was frankly unbelievable to the rest of us. Everyone loves "The Italian Job". We told him the plot, went on and on about the traffic jams and the minis and the cliff-hanger finale, chorused "You're Only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" in unison, but he still refused to admit that he had ever seen it : )
I always wondered how they made it look as if Turin had ground to a halt, in those days before CGI. Then a few years ago I saw a documentary about the making of the film and it claimed that the boss of Fiat and his 'contacts' actually arranged to grid-lock the whole of Turin for the benefit of the film-makers.
4) I finally made it to see "Pirates of the Caribbean" today, and I loved it. I may well go to see it again while I'm still off work. Johnny Depp is extremely funny & Orlando Bloom was cute in it too. Lucky that Jack Sparrow pocketed that medallion wasn't it? And thanks to
elusis mentioning it, I sat through through the interminable credits to see the scene at the end.
