Reading List for October/November - Please Help Me Decide
Thursday, October 2nd, 2003 19:33I'm just starting to read John Le Carre's Karla trilogy; "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy", "The Honourable Schoolboy" & "Smiley's People", but my problem is deciding what else I should read between now and the end of the year.
I have ordered 4 books from Amazon with my birthday vouchers. They are due to arrive in mid to late October, so should I read them as soon as they arrive, or just add them to the ever-increasing pile?
As to my TBR pile, in order to make the decision a bit easier, I have decided to narrow the choice to those authors who are represented by more than one book in my TBR pile. Most of these books are new to me but there are a few re-reads.
Charles De Lindt
A new author to me, but I keep reading good things about him.
* Into the Green
* Trader
Iain Sinclair
I've never read anything by this author either.
* Lud Heat and Suicide Bridge
* White Chappell, Scarlet Tracings
Mervyn Peake
I have had the Gormenghast trilogy longer than any of the other books listed here. Surely I should have got round to reading them by now!
* Titus Groan
* Gormenghast
* Titus Alone
Mario Vargas Llosa
I have read The Time of the Hero, but a long time ago. I have also seen a film version of Aunt Julia & the Scriptwriter.
* Aunt Julia & the Scriptwriter
* Death in the Andes
* The Time of the Hero
* Who Killed Palomino Molero?
Angela Carter
I've read Nights at the Circus but don't remember much about the plot. I've also got a copy of The Bloody Chamber, but I think I'll save that to re-read with another book of updated fairy-tales that my brother has just
sent me.
* Nights at the Circus
* The Sadeian Woman
* Wise Children
So, what do you think I should read first? Should I include the re-reads or put them back on my bookshelves? All comments and suggestions welcome.
