Spirited Away
Down with Love
A very funny pastiche Doris Day movie with a twist that I just didn't see coming at all. The painted skyline outside Barbara's apartment was just so 60s and every time Barbara & Vicky entered a room posing in their over-the-top outfits it made me laugh out loud (especially the yellow & black/white check outfits). Ewan McGregor is v. cute, as although shoe-polish black hair doesn't suit him, his smile more than makes up for it. As the credits started, most of the audience got up to go out, but then they all sat down again to watch the song-and-dance number.
Winged Migration
A documentary about bird migration. It concentrated on large waterfowl, storks and cranes, as they could be trained to accept microlights flying with them. Very beautiful & everyone in the cinema laughed when one of the bouncing cranes fell over.
Spirited Away
My sister & I went to see this movie at the local art house cinema. I was blown away by how pretty the animation was, especially the street of abandoned buildings in the deserted theme park. The setting in a bathhouse where tired gods go to relax was very interesting, although I don't know enough about apanese mythology to recognise all the mythological creatures (makes a change from Disney's pillaging of Western myths & legends). I loved the underwater effect whenever Chihiro was riding the dragon.
