kittiwakeI've just watched a special episode of Scrapheap Challenge celebrating 100 years of powered flight. Three teams from the UK, France & the USA were given 20 hours (10 more than usual) to build a replica of one of those aeroplanes from the early days, using period junk and period tools.
It was very suspenseful wondering whether the planes would they crash, break apart, trundle slowly across the sand, or actually leave the ground as the pilots attempted to fly them along a course in the Mojave Desert.
