Reading Chain

Last month, I decided to follow a suggestion I'd seen on Book Crossing and make the choice of which book to read from my TBR pile easier by linking my choices thematically. I started the chain with the last book I read in February, "The Map of Love", and it worked out quite well:

Map of Love
socially unacceptable love
Oranges are not the only Fruit
monstrous mothers
Grendel & Beowulf
devastated countryside
Riddley Walker
the hart of the wood
Lavondyss

It was lucky that my book club read (Riddley Walker) slotted in so well. However, I did read a couple of other books that I didn't attempt to slot in to the chain. I read a Discworld novel on a whim one afternoon, and as I tend to read non-fiction alongside one or more novels, and over a longer period of time, I decided that it wouldn't work to have them as links in the chain.

I might try making a reading chain again next month, but it doesn't fit in with my intended reading for April. If I was to do it every month, I can see myself becoming just a little obsessive about making the longest chain possible.
