Fish Hooks, Segways & Willpower
Saturday, October 9th, 2004 22:32For once, going to see a film I knew nothing about didn't work out too well. UGC has been showing films from the Tartan Asia Extreme film season, but the Korean film "The Isle" was just a bit too extreme for me.
It' s by the same director as "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter . . . and Spring" which was much more to my taste, so it would seem that he has a penchant for lakes and floating buildings.
I'm liking the new US sit-com "Arrested Development". It's especially amusing how one of the characters keeps appearing on a Segway. It looks truly bizzarre when he just swivels it round and moves away. I really want to see someone riding/driving/using? a Segway in real life : )
Another new program that I'm also liking, is the extremely weird Channel 4 comedy "Green Wing", which is set in a hospital. The characters are all extremely bizarre and possibly quite insane! Michelle Gomez as Sue the Human Resources woman is just fantastic; it was so funny when Sue & Joanna were in the ladies and had a competition about who looked sexier - pushing their boobs up, swishing their hair about, then Joanna pulled her skirt up so that it was really short, but Sue topped that and won the competition by taking off her trousers and walking out in jacket and blouse with stockings and high heels.
I had a look in Waterstones today but didn't buy anything. I was very tempted by "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell", having heard a lot of good things about it, but I think I'll wait until it comes out in paperback - at the moment it's an absolutely enormous hardback.
