The Mystery of the Missing Winter Clothes

kittiwakeWhat is it with gloves and hats? I think they sneak off to another planet when my back is turned, like biros do.
So far this winter:
1) I lost one of a pair of black fleece gloves, which is annoying because they are warm thick gloves suitable for the coldest weather and I only bought them recently.
2) I lost one of a pair of grey thinsulate gloves.
3) I found the grey glove again.
4) I mislaid both the grey gloves again this week. I suspected that I had put them in a bag of Christmas shopping, so I looked in a load of carrier bags, but no luck.
5) As that morning was on the chilly side, I went to the wardrobe and fished down the side of a pile of jumpers to find my other pair of gloves. I was expecting to find a pair of dark green wool gloves, but instead found a rather grubby pair of pale turquoise wool gloves, that won't last me all winter, as they're already threadbare in places. I have a vague recollection of losing the dark green gloves last winter!
6) While looking for the gloves, I was surprised to find a grey fleece hat with ear-flaps, that I thought I had lost. I'm sure that I looked everywhere for it last winter without success.
7) I went to work in the pale turquoise gloves, and as soon as I got there, I found the grey gloves stuffed in the outside pocket of my shopping bag.
So I currently have 1 pair of grey gloves (in my coat pockets), 1 pair of turquoise gloves (in the wash), 1 black fleece hat, 1 grey fleece hat with ear-flaps and 1 navy and pale blue striped hat, with ear-flaps & wool plaits (my favourite, bought in Iceland). Who knows how many of them I'll have lost before spring!
Strangely, I don't seem to have the same problem with scarfs. I have had my green and navy tartan scarf and my long black knitted scarf for years and years, and never lost either of them. And I've been wearing my purple velvet devore scarf all autumn with no problems.
