The Anita Blake Books
Tuesday, April 15th, 2003 19:04Last night I had a dream featuring Anita Blake. I've been reading people's opinions of her latest adventures on the Internet, as I've only got as far as "Obsidian Butterfly", and I'm not sure whether I can be bothered to read the latest two books. Maybe I'll see if they are available at the library or on BookCrossing, but I don't think I want to spend money on them. I listed the rest of the series on Amazon Marketplace and they do seem quite popular, as I've managed to sell most of them.
My major gripe with the series is the fact that the other types of were-animals all behave like the wolves. It just feels lazy to me as if LKH couldn't be bothered to research how leopards, rats and other species actually behave so she arbitrarily decided that they would all live in packs with an alpha male and female.
I don't like Richard and I can't think how anyone that whiny could ever have got to be alpha male of the wolf-pack. Every time I read a new book in the series, I hope that this would be the one where Richard will die (I know it's mean, but I can't help it). It is mainly Edward that has kept me reading so far, along with Jean Claude's amusing resemblance to Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen.

Copper Roots ?
Tuesday, April 15th, 2003 19:08The lift in the hotel I stayed in at the weekend had mirrors on the walls, and I had a shock when I saw my hair in them. The roots, which had been dyed only a week before, were a fetching shade of pale copper, which unfortunately did not match the rest of my dark red hair at all. I couldn't believe that it could have faded that much in 7 days, when it was supposed to be exactly the same dye as had been used on the rest of my hair, and was planning to have a word with the hairdresser about it when I got back home.
But then when I looked at my hair in the mirror in my hotel room and at the convention centre, it didn't look like that at all, so it must just have been something to do with the lighting in the lift. Weird.
