Nest-Building
Thursday, July 22nd, 2004 20:03A few weeks ago, someone gave me a Gmail invite, but once I had set up my account I found that Gmail didn't work with the Mac version of Internet Explorer. So I downloaded Mozilla and really liked the tabbed pages feature, but it crashed annoyingly often so I decided to go for Opera. Opera was very quick to download and has similar tabbing to Mozilla, but I can't use Gmail with it. Maybe I'll try downloading Firefox at the weekend and give that a go, but I'm happy with Opera as it hasn't crashed once since I got it! I'll just have to wait until Gmail start supporting Opera at some point before I start using my account.
But I'm getting away from the point, which is that when I changed to Opera I found that my LJs looked rubbish in it - the font was all weirdly spaced and hard to read. So as I was still using one of the old S1 styles, I realised that it was time for a change. I decided to go with a kittiwake theme, so I chose the Unearthed S2 style in an aqua and blue colour-scheme to give it a sea-like mood and changed the title and subtitle of the journal to go with the theme. Once I'd got
kittiwake set up how I liked it, I changed
kittiwakedreams to match.
My dream diary has icons of silent film stars, but I could do with a kittiwake icon for my main LJ although I do like the icons I have at the moment. If I had to choose I think I'd keep my hare and northern lights icons and replace the Isis icon. And I would swap the keywords round so that the hare stood for dreams and mythology and the kittiwake was the default. I may do that if I have time at the weekend and can find a kittiwake photo that looks good when shrunk to icon size.
