I finally succumbed and bought some books on Sunday, five books to be exact, but one doesn't count as it is for a Christmas present. I'm going to blame The Works for having some good books in their 3 for £5 offer for once, and Fopp for having some very interesting books for £3. How can I be expected to resist such temptation? Of the four that do count, one is a science fiction/alternate history book that has been on my wish list for a long time. Two are fantasy novels with one being the first book in a series that has been recommended several times recently on [livejournal.com profile] fantasywithbite while the other is the second book in a series whose first book is also on my TBR pile (so it could turn out to be a waste of money if I don't like the first book - must stop doing that). The final book is a humorous novel that was also on my wish list.

The Man in the High Castle - Philip K Dick
Sailing to Sarantium - Guy Gavriel Kay
Lost in a Good Book - Jasper Fforde
The Book, the Film and the T-Shirt - Matt Beaumont

Technological advances:
I paid a cheque into my current account using the ATM inside the branch. When I had put it into the clot, the machine asked me whether I would like to see a picture of my cheque, and then displayed it on the screen. It also printed the picture on my receipt!

It's that time of year again:
It was 'flu day' at my GP's surgery today so I went to be inoculated on the way to work. I'm eligible for a free jab because of having asthma. A couple of years ago, 'flu day' was postponed because they couldn't get supplies of the vaccine, but the recent problems with the factory in Liverpool didn't stop them getting enough this time. So now that I've been inoculated, I just have to hope that they have guessed correctly which strain of flu will be prevalent this winter.

Nottingham fashionistas please take note:
I also noticed that Willoughby House on Low Pavement (the big Georgian house with a courtyard in front), is going to open as a Paul Smith shop this winter. It will be selling menswear & womenswear.
