Book 56: "Night Terrors" by Nicole Davidson
Saturday, July 28th, 2007 20:51I picked this young adult book up at at this afternoon's BookCrossing meeting in Birmingham because of the cover picture, which included four hospital beds. Today is the last day for releasing bed themed books for the Never Judge a Book By Its Cover challenge, so I read most of the book on the train back to Nottingham and finished the last twenty pages sitting on the steps of the market cross before leaving it there.
Fifteen-year-old Maggie Johnson has suffered from night terrors for as long as she can remember. Her nights are filled with dreams of being chased down corridors by a wild woman brandishing a knife, and she has often put herself in danger by climbing through windows and running in front of cars while asleep.
Her life is also lacking in stability due to her father's seeming inability to hold down a job for longer than a year. Her family is constantly on the move, and the school friends who promise to stay in touch when she moves on never do.
Things come to a head when Maggie ends up in hospital in Chicago after another accident caused by her night terrors.
Quite enjoyable, and not the horror story that I expected after reading the back cover.
