I mainly bought this book because of its extremely pretty cover, but it was a mistake. Even though it was a steampunk novel with zombies, so you would think it would be interesting at least.

I started reading "The Affinity Bridge" but didn't get very far.The way is is written jarred with me and kept breaking the spell, but I think it was the fact that the new assistant looked at her boss quizzically when someone knocked on the office door that was the last straw. Did people not knock on doors in Victorian Britain? Yes of course they did, so what is there to look quizzical about? If the knock had come from the ceiling or the floor I could understand it, but it was at the door and it was her first day working in the office so even if people didn't usually knock on the door, she wouldn't know that.
