. . . when it comes to book shops. I have fallen off the wagon big time in the past month or so.

Firstly Waterstones did a 3 for 2 on the 100 books on the BBC Big Read list, so I accidentally bought:
"GOOD OMENS" by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman (because people keep recommending it)
"1984" by George Orwell, (I think I've read it, but so long ago that I can't remember any of the details)
"ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE" by Gabriel Maria Marquez (bought by mistake, as it had the same cover as "Love in the Time of Cholera")*

Then WH Smith had a 2 for £10 offer, and these books just jumped off the shelves into my arms:
"FALLING SIDEWAYS" by Tom Holt (because it had a picture of a tree frog on the cover and the blurb was funny)
"THE HONOURABLE SCHOOLBOY" by John Le Carre (as I'm reading all the George Smiley books in order)
"THE NO. 1 LADIES DETECTIVE AGENCY" by Alexander McCall Smith (another one that keeps being recommended)
"FEERSUM ENDJINN", by Iain M., Banks ( really shouldn't have bought this, as it only came second in the July book club poll, but I don't really fancy reading the winner)

After buying all these books, I resented that fact that none of the books from my wish list were on offer, so I went to Waterstone's and bought six more books:
"STUPID WHITE MEN" by Michael Moore (I bought copies for two people for Christmas, and it's been on my wish list since then)
"LUD HEAT AND SUICIDE BRIDGE" by Iain Sinclair (also on my wish list since I bought a copy for someone else)
"BEOWULF" by Seamus Heaney (it got good reviews & I want to compare it to my other translation)
"INTRODUCTION TO BUDDHISM" by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso (just caught my eye today)
"THE LITTLE ICE AGE: HOW CLIMATE MADE HISTORY 1300 - 1850" by Brian Hagan (the reason why the Norse settlement of Greenland failed - I want to read more about it)
"IN THE WAKE OF THE PLAGUE" by Norman F, Cantor (a book about the black Death - I saw it on the mediaeval history shelf when picking up the previous book - I'm interested after reading "Doomsday Book" by Connie Willis earlier this month)

I have blown my book budget big-time and must not buy any more books until Christmas.**

*I'd thrown away the receipt before I noticed my mistake, so I couldn't return it. I debated keeping it and getting rid of my old copy, as its pages are crinkly from when I dropped it in the bath, but decided to give it to my mother as part of her birthday present.
** Unless I get book tokens for my birthday.
