Miscellany
Wednesday, July 9th, 2003 19:08 On Saturday I had my hair dyed, after being decoloured last week. So now it is a lighter auburn, with a golden fringe and some golden sections through the top, which was E's idea (E is the top colourist at the hairdresser's).
This week, we did all five stages of the Metta Bhavana meditation. I decided to try using the visualisation of a lotus opening in the heart while meditating, rather than repeating the phrases in my mind. Words comes more easily to me than pictures so far, but I will probably alternate them as the visualisation should get easier with time. Since the previous lesson, I have managed to meditate most days, alternating the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana.
A migraine was nagging at me towards the end of last week, but was squashed with Migraleve until it broke through on Sunday. I got up and dressed and was ready to go to the gym at 9 o'clock, but I thought I'd have a mug of coffee first in case my headache was due to caffeine deprivation. It didn't feel really like a migraine to start with, but after the coffee I felt a bit dizzy and went to lie down, and didn't get up again until getting on for 5 o'clock. Of course, the shops shut at 4:30 pm on Sundays, so I didn't manage to get to the supermarket or do anything else on my list. Unusually, last week's migraine had the pain behind my left eye which has only happened about twice before. I'm still feeling migrainey this week but the pain is back behind the right eye and I'm just about managing to squash it with Migraleve again.
Is it too early to start thinking about Christmas? I make a monthly charity payment to Amnesty International via payroll giving, so they send me their magazine at my work address. It arrived today along with their present catalogue, and I had a look at lunchtime. Maybe I'll go for their mystery parcel, which contains at least 7 items from previous catalogues suitable for giving as presents. Obviously it's a way for them to get rid of old stock, but it sounds like a bargain and may mean I don't actually have to make any decisions about what to buy for stocking fillers this years!
