In this week's meditation session, we did a walking meditation for the first time. Having piled the mats and cushions up in the middle of the shrine room, we walked slowly clockwise around the room, changing pace every now and then. While walking the aim was to be mindful of the action of walking, the feel of your feet on the wooden floor, the way the muscles in your calves feel, the movement of your skirt against your legs, etc. Oh, and this is a meditation that is done with your eyes open !

On Tuesday night I woke up twice in the night, at 03:10 and 05:45. The first time I was boiling hot, even though I didn't have any bedclothes over me, and extremely thirst, so I staggered into the kitchen, drank a glass of iced water and put another glass by my bed for later. I drank the second glass when I woke up again.
Last night it was so hot that I thought I was never going to get to sleep, and I woke up extremely thirsty again, this time at 02:45. I had very disturbed sleep for the rest of the night, was totally shattered at work today and my eyes kept drooping shut on the bus home.
This is not on. Having 'getting to sleep' insomnia is bad enough, without waking up in the night several times as well. It looks really bad when I'm constantly yawn in meetings at work and it must be disturbing for other people in my meditation class (although someone was snoring last week, so maybe the odd yawn isn't so bad).
I think that I must not be drinking enough in the evenings for these weather conditions, so I'll make an effort to drink more water (not coffee) tonight.

Home-made ice-lollies are fantastic. The best that I've made so far were flavoured with Pink Ginger Cordial. I find ice-lollies so much more refreshing than ice-cream in hot weather.
