In the last couple of years, I have started buying myself a present for my birthday. Last year's was a Handspring PDP, but this year I decided to trawl the bookshops of Nottingham. I couldn't find anything I fancied at the second-hand paperbacks shop, so I headed to Waterstone's for coffee and a browsing session.

After checking out all four floors of the bookshop, I ended up with five books, all non-fiction. I had my Amazon wish list (mostly fiction) with me to compare prices, but I have been given £50 of Amazon vouchers so I'll use them to get my fiction fix.

1) "What Not To Wear" - the book of the tv series. Trinny & Susannah are horrible to the people on their show, but they always look 500% better at the end of it, so I'll try to follow their advice next time I go clothes shopping.
2) "Introducing Jung" - as I've signed up for an evening class about Jung this autumn. It is copiously illustrated with cartoons, so I shouldn't have too much trouble finishing it before the course starts.
3) "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" - I should really have asked my father if he's got a copy, but it was an impulse buy.
4) "The Millionaire Next Door" - this is always being recommended on the Motley fool LBYM & Books boards.
5) "The New High Protein Diet" - a UK low-carbohydrate diet book. The Atkins diet book is too Americanised really with all the medical tests it expects you get. I can't see a GP agreeing to do them.
