Relaxation

Tomorrow is the last day of my fortnight off. I didn't go away, but I have had a very relaxing time, so I am ready to go back to work on Monday and see how they've been getting on without me. By this time next week, it will no doubt seem as if I hadn't had any time off in in months.

On a hot sunny day earlier this week, I decided to eat a picnic lunch in the castle grounds. I walked over to look at an acoustic sculpture which is new since the last time I visited and nearly trod on a grey squirrel, which ran under my feet. It didn't seem too perturbed, as it kept scampering around the paths, over the grass and up the tree-trunks all the time I was there. It's certainly the fattest grey squirrel I have ever seen, so it must be used to the visitors feeding it and to scavenging for the remains of their picnics. I ate my lunch in the sun on one of the benches by the bandstand and then retreated to a bench in the shade for a while, as it was very hot.

I have caught up on all the things I had videoed in the last couple of months, including"Travels with a Gringo" (a three-part documentary about the effects of globalisation in Latin America), "Of Freaks and Men" (a strange Russian film set in the 19th Century and filmed in sepia, about a group of people involved in making spanking porn) and "Freeway" (a modern version of Little Red Riding-Hood).

I have read eight books, "Breakfast in the Ruins" by Michael Moorcock, "Coraline" by Neil Gaiman, "1984" by George Orwell, "In the Wake of the Plague" by Norman F. Cantor, "The Sandman: Book of Dreams" edited by Neil Gaiman & Ed Kramer, "Pale Fire" by Vladimir Nabakov, "Stupid White Men" by Michael Moore & "Ex Libris" by Anne Fadiman, and am half-way through the ninth, "Lord of Light" by Roger Zelazny.
Unfortunately my to be read pile has not gone down at all, due to a) accidentally buying a few lot more books & b) joining the BookCrossingUK Yahoo group and swapping books with the other members, which lowers the number of previously read books on my shelves, while increasing my stock of unread books.

I have deliberately not scheduled myself for any early morning activities, so I have managed to catch up on my sleep. However the problem with waking up when I'm ready rather than being rudely awakened by my alarm, is that I haven't remembered any dreams at all while I've been off work.
